Nausheen meets HRH Prince Charles at Leighton House

On Thursday, May 20, 2010, HRH Prince Charles attended the official re-opening of the Leighton House Museum in Kensington, London. Nausheen was invited on this occasion to present the work that students produced during her Bevington School workshop in March. In addition to being extremely gracious and generous with his praise of the workshop, HRH Prince Charles also discussed progress on the Handmade in Burnley project, the exhibition and workshops for which were developed and lead by Nausheen earlier this year. HRH expressed his joy on the successful Burnley exhibition as well as congratulated the staff at Leighton House on their efforts to raise the money and complete the £1.6 million restoration of Leighton House Museum.

Nausheen Appointed Research and Design Director at Vesica Ltd.

Nausheen was today appointed the Director for Research and Design at Vesica, a London based company that promises to launch art management software with the intent to change the way art collectors, artists, galleries and auction houses manage their objects d'art. In her new role, Nausheen will be leading all traditional research work and will help with enhancing the functionality of the company's core software to enable its documentation platform to grow with industry requirements and research work the company undertakes for art collectors. Traditional Embroidery Workhop @ PSTA

Starting today, Nausheen will be teaching a 4 week course in Traditional Embroidery at the Prince's School of Traditional Arts in London. Participants will be introduced to a variety of traditional embroidery techniques - from Central Asian to the Indian sub continent - and their use in traditional costumes.

Workshop in Conjunction with Leighton House

In a series of workshops designed to communicate the concepts of Traditional Islamic Art and Architecture (starting today through March 16, 2010) Nausheen taught 3 different year groups / classes at the Bevington School in London. Students were introducted to paper to textile techniques and felt making.

Work done by the students during the workshop will be exhibited at Leighton House on the 18th of April, 2010.

Handmade in Burnley Exhibition

HRH The Prince of Wales visited UCLan today to see the Handmade in Burnley Exhibition as part of his trip. At the Exhibition were a variety of pieces, including the wall hanging made of each of the participants' pieces put together. Some of Nausheen's product development designs, including an abaya and a traditional embroidered laptop cover, were also on display.

Handmade in Burnley a success!

In a series of workshops delivered between November and February, Nausheen gave students in Burnley a deep insight into the history, symbolism and techniques of traditional textiles. The workshop was aimed at developing skills and techniques which would lend to future product development. Work completed by participants during these workshops is to be exhibited at an exhibition at the University of Central Lancashire in Burnley on February 5th.

8 Week Workshop @ Holborn Community Development Project

Nausheen's 8 week workshop at the Holborn Community Development Project (now known as the 1-A Arts Centre) came to an end this week. The workshop introduced participants to concepts of Traditional Islamic Art, leading into various traditional textile techniques ranging from Central Asia to the Indian Sub Continent.

Nausheen Revisits Beit Al Sadu

Sheikha Altaf Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah has cordially invited Nausheen, an accomplished artist in Islamic Art, to once again visit Sadu House in September / October 2009. As part of her trip, Nausheen will conduct a workshop around the study and exploration of Arabesque (Islimi) in a variety of media.

Nausheen will also be giving a lecture, which will discuss the philosophy, theory and symbolism which formulates the foundation of traditional crafts and tie in this symbolism with the practice of traditional crafts, such as textiles and calligraphy.

Proposal for Royal Partnership

As part of the Prince's School of Traditional Arts (PSTA) initiative to further its goals of spreading the knowledge and wisdom of the traditional arts, the charity has signed a deal with some of the most dynamic museums and art organisations in Abu Dhabi to setup courses and departments in various fields of arts.

Nausheen put forward a comprehensive textile proposal as part of this effort from PSTA which received a very positive response and played an important part in the agreement to eventually take the project forward, forming a relationship between the Prince's Trust in the UK and the Royal family backing the initiative in Abu Dhabi.

Traditional Textiles Weaving - Short Course

Nausheen will teaching a short course focusing on Traditional Textiles and Weaving this autumn at the Prince's School of Traditional Arts. The course will last from October 10 to October 31, 2009.

Students will be introduced to a range of traditional textiles through an understanding of the art of textile design. The course will explore weaving techniques and various applications to create a woven panel. Students will also develop an understanding of the symbolism behind weaving.

Islamic Art Workshop @ Royal Borough

As part of the 'Across the Street, Around the World' festival arranged by the Arts Services at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Nausheen will be teaching an Islamic Art workshop on November 3, 2009.

This workshop will provide a hands-on introduction to 'islimi' - the art of arabesque- and a ahnce to experiment with the prinicples of colour, geometry and texture found in islamic arts and textile design.

Hand made in Burnley

As part of the Princle Charles' regeneration programme in Burnley to change the lives of hundreds of Burnley youngsters, Nausheen conducted a series of workshops in July 2009 over several weeks in conjunction with the Prince's School fo Traditional Arts. The workshops focused on developing the textile skills of the local residents, with an aim to helping Burnley revive its lost culture from the days it housed the textile mills.

Online Store Launched

On Monday, November 17, the Nausheen Sheikh shopping store was launched with Calligraphy, plates and tiles available for sale. For the first time, Nausheen's classic, collectible,and hand-painted works are now available online.

The store, available on http://store.nausheensheikh.com features some of Nausheen's one-off hand painted items, including the Prussian Peacock Tile and the Rumi Shield Plate. Visit the store today own one of the upcoming artist's timeless pieces.

Nausheen's painting to go on Flyer

For the second time, the Islam Expo (to be held in Olympia, London from 11-14 July, 2008) will use the work of Nausheen Sheikh to enhance their marketing and credibility in the London area. This year, Nausheen's Bismillah Calligraphy is featured on an Islam Expo Flyer.

Last year, Islam Expo used a full size banner of Nausheen's Lustred Ottoman Penc.

This year, Islam Expo has used an image of Nausheen's famous Bismillah Calligraphy, with an illuminous background and Bismillah Ar Rehman Ar Raheem written in Gold.

Nausheen to work with Christie's

Nausheen will be working with the textile department at Christie's South Kensington, London in connection with the Indian & Islamic Works of Art & Textiles Auction to be held on the 11th of April, 2008.

After her extensive expierience with design & art work, Nausheen will work with Christie's to get exposure to the vast industry of art auctions. It's a stepping stone in the career of the artist, who is putting together an exquisite, traditional body of work for her own exhibition in the near future.

An Exhibition of Flatweaves

Starting April 9th, Nausheen will work with Joss Graham at the Exhibition of Flatweaves to conduct two different introductory weaving classes at the gallery in Victoria, London. Booking is available and seating is strictly limited, so please call the gallery to reserve.

The exhibition will focus on Kilims and dhurries from Central Asia, Iran, North Africa and India, and will run from 9th April to 31st May, 2008.

The two workshops are scheduled for Saturdays the 12th and 18th of April, 2008, and run oly GBP 75 per person, which incudes lunch, refreshments and all the materials required to complete the workshop.

For Art's Sake - Commercial Interior Design

Nausheen was featured in the August, 2007 issue of Commerical Interior Design Magazine. The issue focuses on public spaces and areas in commercial projects. The relevant article titled "For Art's Sake" talk about the impact of Art in public spaces. The article features pictures of Nausheen's work and discusses some of her unique ideas and applications of traditional art to interior design.

Dubai Falcon Project

Nausheen visited Dubai in February to paint a Falcon for the Dubai Falcon Project. Displayed in front of the Shangrila Hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road, Nausheen's Falcon will be auctioned by Christie's. Bait / Beit / Biet Al Sadu - Kuwait

February 12th through the 26th, the Prince's School of Traditional Arts held a workshop and an exhibition of the school's work in Kuwait. The workshops were held in conjunction with Prince Charles' Gulf Tour and were hosted at the Bait Al Sadu / Biet Al Sadu / Beit Al Sadu in Kuwait City. Sheikha Altaf Salem A. al Sabah was the hostess, and the workshop and exhibition was part of her plan to revive the old and traditional arts in Kuwait.

Nausheen was present as one of the members of the Prince's School of Traditional Arts, and taught a workshop in Textiles- Pattern, Colour, and Texture. In addition, she helped co-ordinate the event and briefed Prince Charles on the workshop's Performance.
